Check out this interview with Eddie Jones of England Rugby at the Training Ground Guru. He’s making the point that training environments need to mirror the chaos of games. By training in this environment players will learn to think for themselves on the field.
“We’re trying to wean England off this, because they want to play the game like a game or chess – the game is not like that. At the moment England training is 70% unstructured and 30% structured and we’re too much structured at the moment.
“We need to change players from being reliant on structures to having the confidence to play unstructured. We need to get to 85% unstructured, 15% structured in our training.”
